I’m coming into this review as somebody who’s basically just dipped their toes into Andrew Hussie’s mad brain-child thanks to a recommendation from my partner, so what I’m really looking to discern here is how effectively the source material translates into the gaming medium, and whether it makes any sense to anybody who hasn’t been exposed to it before. So… what is it? I’ll offer as brief a primer as I can, based on my barely functional working knowledge of the Homestuck lore. Over three years later, fans finally have the second part of the story, and the strange legacy of “ Homestuck: The Video Game” continues. A huge chunk of that money vanished in suspicious circumstances (through no fault of the people running the campaign, but that’s a whole ‘nother rabbit hole), along with much of the original vision for the game. And there's the implication that Dammek didn't have it, too - possibly Scratch only cares because a human showed up, whereas Dammek was just a run-of-the-mill wannabe rebel.HIVESWAP‘s first act was released in 2017, years after an extremely successful Kickstarter campaign that raised almost two and a half million dollars. Whatever's going on, Scratch is definitely paying attention to it - that Scratchware that Xefros got didn't come out of a plot hole. Definitely way too early to say for sure, though.) And something definitely whammied Joey into using that key on the portal. (Also, is it just me or does anyone else suspect that Dammek might have some mind-control psionics? Xefros says that his memories of the time Dammek made him act out the stunts from "their" favourite action movies are fuzzy, and Dammek didn't seem too surprised as he passed Joey. That said, he's still been utterly awful to Xefros from what we can tell, and I hope he gets that sorted out before Xefros has to deal with him again.
He did, after all, have a book on lusii that says his lusus picks bronzebloods with leadership potential, and I don't think he has any good examples for what a leader should act like.
Regarding Dammek, given the information we have right now, I'm willing to offer him the benefit of the doubt and say he might be dealing with the same sort of self-fulfilling prophecy bull that Vriska was.
